Q ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS: For Think Piece #3, your piece must discuss what aspects of our class readings, materials, and discussions you find to be the most powerfully connected to our contemporary society and why. This will require you to consider the historical, cultural, and social topics we have covered over the semester. Your think piece must provide specific evidence; you may use any information from our class lectures, class discussion, additional materials (videos and handouts) and the textbook, The Struggle Continues. Your think piece must have a thesis statement at the end of the introduction that effectively puts forth the ideas and argument you will make in your piece. Your essay must be 4-6 pages, double-spaced with no larger than 12 point font. You will submit your think piece as a Word or PDF file to the Dropbox.Think Piece #2 is worth 100 points toward your final grade and will be graded via rubric and specific comments in the feedback section of the rubric. Think Piece #3 Requirements 1. PART ONE: In the first section of your exam, please discuss what you feel are the most important pieces/topics you have learned about African and/or African American culture this semester. This section of your essay can be personal narrative and you may use “I” in your discussion. 2. PART TWO: Using at least four different sources from our materials from class to support your claims from Part One. At least one of your sources must be drawn from our class Black Aesthetic Anthology; the other three are your choice. This section is analytical, free from “I”, and you must cite from the materials you chose to use. 3. PART THREE: For the final section of your essay, wrap up your discussion with a brief discussion on what aspects and/or topics we have covered over the semester that you feel are still relevant in our current society and to what extent you feel studying African American history and culture are important to higher education. This section of your the piece should be a personal narrative and you may use “I” in your discussion.
